Butterfly valves with plastic handles are types of quarter-turn rotational valves that utilize a disc (often called the "butterfly") mounted on a rod to regulate the flow of fluids. When the plastic handle is rotated 90 degrees, the disc turns to either align with the flow path (fully open) or to block the flow path (fully closed), thus controlling the passage of the medium through the pipe.

These valves are utilized for a variety of applications, including water treatment, chemical processing, and other industries where corrosive materials are involved. Plastic handles are often chosen for their resistance to corrosion and chemical degradation, as well as for being lightweight and generally lower in cost compared to metal handles.

In sanitary applications, butterfly valves with plastic handles can be essential for controlling flow with precision, thanks to their quick, reliable, and safe operation. They are typically found in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other hygienic processing systems where avoiding contamination is critical.
