Visual examination is not the most reliable way to measure clarity of wine, the use of a scientific instrument is required. A turbidity meter allows winemaker to make adjustments during fermentation and filtration.
Hanna Instruments has developed the HI 83749 meter to accurately measure the haze (Turbidity) caused by Protein and Microbial contamination and is an invaluable tool in the monitoring of Bentonite addition. Optical system consists of a tungsten light source and a narrow band filter of 525 nm.
